Safety

For Budimex, concern for the safety of those working on construction sites is a matter of ethics and both moral and social responsibility

While implementing business objectives, we take all necessary measures to avoid accidents and reduce threats to the health of workers and other people performing work on our construction sites.

We are committed to setting the standards for ourselves and our business partners, and to consistently strive to meet them. The basis for Budimex operations is the belief that safety is a common good and we are responsible not only for ourselves, but also for our colleagues.

Therefore, we involve our colleagues, contractors, consortium members, suppliers and each individual participating in carrying out the project in all safety-related tasks.

In February 2020, Budimex learned about the strategy and new operating model for the Ferrovial Group, of which it is part. The strategy applies to the years 2020-2024, hence its title - "HORIZON 24."

OHS - key priority of the "Horizon 24” strategy

One of the key assumptions of the "Horizon 24" strategy is to strive for perfection within OHS. The CEO of Ferrovial, Ignacio Madridejos, explains the strategic approach to the implementation of a culture based on care for the health and safety of employees, which supports the vision of ensuring safe and risk-free work.

"OSH is the heart of everything we do and I believe that this is what makes us better every day. It is not only what we should do, but also the way we operate our business, wherever we are and whatever we do,” said Ignacio Madridejos, CEO of Ferrovial.

HORIZON 24 and Budimex's plans

Budimex creates almost 30% of the revenue in the construction sector, which is why our company will be crucial in realising the Horizon 24 strategy adopted by Ferrovial.

Safety and commitment

The implementation of business plans while constantly improving the quality of the processes and finances is only a part of the strategy. The safety of our employees is at least equally important. In the near future each business is required to reduce the number of fatal and severe accidents by at least 10% compared to the previous year.

A factor supporting the required organisation of work is the high commitment of the employees. Therefore, as a Group, we will strive to improve efficiency in this respect and to create a good working atmosphere.

To ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of our actions, we have introduced a management system that meets the following standard: ISO 45001. This is a basic tool for pursuing our OHS Policy.

Budimex Action Plan for 2020

While pursuing our business goals, we take all the necessary actions in order to avoid accidents and reduce health hazards with respect to employees and persons rendering work on our construction sites.

We are obliged to set standards for ourselves and for our business partners as well as consistently seek to meet them. Our business actions are founded on the conviction that safety constitutes a common good, and each of us is responsible not only for ourselves but also for our coworkers.

Thus, we involve our coworkers, contractors, consortia members, suppliers and each of the individual persons participating in the implementation of any investment project in the performance of all tasks related to safety.

With a view to ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the performed actions, we have implemented a management system compliant with the following standards: PN-N-18001:2004 and BS OHSAS 14001:2007. This is a basic tool enabling us to implement our OHS policy.

Porozumienie dla bezpieczeństwa

We are an active participant in an initiative for improving the level of safety in the construction sector – “Agreement for Construction Safety”. Together with the other beneficiaries of the Agreement, we take actions aiming at establishing a culture of safety, raising awareness on the existence of threats related to working on a construction site – and consequently, eliminating risk. We are striving to reach a common goal – “0” accidents.
