Work progress at Czechowice-Dziedzice station

Work on the Czechowice-Dziedzice railway station is progressing. Budimex's current work under the contract includes the construction of platform 2, the construction of four main tracks, four additional tracks and eight sidings on the north side of the station. Construction of a set of departure tracks is also underway on the east and west sides. The advancement of the overall work is already at 77%. The works are progressing according to the schedule.

The new platform is expected to be open for passengers to use in June 2023. New platforms are also being built at the Goczałkowice-Zdrój halt, as well as a new track on the River Vistula bridge to Czechowice-Dziedzice section, along with overhead catenary and traffic control equipment. This phase of work is scheduled for completion in April 2023.

“Less than a year remains until completion, during which several key elements need to be done, such as completion of the track system in the northern part of the station and railway line 139, along with the catenary network, railway signalling systems, a railway flyover over ul. Legionów in Czechowice-Dziedzice and a retention pond at the station for such things as drainage of rainwater from the adjacent urban area. On the finished sections, clean-up and finishing work will continue, along with the construction of the designed greenery,” says Wojciech Głuc, Budimex Contract Director.

Under the contract signed in October 2019, Budimex is responsible for:

  • replacement of about 47 km of track and 56 km of overhead catenary line as well as 119 turnouts;
  • reconstruction of 23 road structures, including 8 flyovers and 4 bridges;
  • upgrading of 3 railway crossings;
  • construction of a Local Control Centre at the Czechowice-Dziedzice station;
  • upgrading platforms at the Czechowice-Dziedzice station and at the Goczałkowice-Zdrój and Zabrzeg halts.

The aim of the investment is to provide greater passenger comfort, improve the transport of goods and travel over upgraded facilities: bridges, flyover and culverts – including a new 150 m bridge over the Vistula between Goczałkowice-Zdrój and Czechowice, and a new flyover over the DK 1 in Czechowice-Dziedzice. Thanks to the investment, it will be possible to travel comfortably and efficiently between Katowice, Zebrzydowice and Cieszyn (border with the Czech Republic) and the Beskid Mountains. All facilities will be adapted to serve people with limited mobility.
