Three projects of Budimex won 2019 construction Oscars

BUDIMEX SA was the first-degree prize-winner in as many as three categories in the “Construction of 2019” competition. In a jubilee, thirtieth edition of the prestigious ranking, the BIG office building in Kraków was awarded in the category of “Office facilities” together with the Education and Recreation Centre in Marki (“Cultural, scientific and education facility”) and Arena Jaskółka Tarnów - Sports and Recreation Venue in Tarnów (“Individually assessed facilities”).

Investments in 9 different rankings are evaluated in the “Construction of the Year” competition, ranging from housing, commercial to industrial structures. This year, in the category of office buildings, the recognition was received by, among others, the modern and environmentally friendly BIG building, distinctive with its energy efficiency, realised for Ghelamco Poland. The structure has four floors above ground and a two-level underground garage, equipped with, among other things, bicycle parking with sockets to charge electric bikes. The office building was built according to the BREEAM system, which means that the investment has been subject to a strict environmental impact assessment on both the project and execution level. The volume of this project is over 73,000 m3 and its usable area amounts to 10,000 m2.

“We are extremely proud that the structures of Budimex were selected in this year's competition. “Construction of the Year” is an exceptional award, the jury takes into account a number of criteria on which we have been placing particular focus for years. Safety, good organisation of work, ecological aspects and high quality are the assumptions we follow in the realisation of all investments,” says Artur Popko, Vice President of Budimex SA.

The second award-winning project is MCER, the most advanced public utility building in Poland. Thanks to the use of innovative technologies, the facility produces its own electricity, collects rainwater and constantly optimises energy consumption in all of its areas. The complex acts as an educational, sports, recreational and conference centre.

“This is the fourth industry distinction awarded for this structure. Earlier, MCER won the PLGBC Green Building Awards, the Green Laurel of the Polish Chamber of Commerce and the Sports Facility of 2019 award,” says Artur Popko, Vice President of Budimex SA.

The distinguished investments completed in 2019 also included Arena Jaskółka Tarnów. This is the second largest sports and entertainment venue in the Masovian Province. The three-story structure has as many as 4,317 seating places in the audience area. A distinctive feature of the project is the hybrid roof design, which is fitted with 422 photovoltaic panels with a total power of 120 kWp.

The “Construction of the Year” competition is held annually by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians with the participation of the Ministry of Construction and the Central Office of Construction Supervision. Its objective is to select projects which stand out in terms of cutting-edge technological solutions, quality of work and safety of the working environment.

In the previous year, Budimex SA won the “Construction of 2018” award in the category of “industrial and production facilities” for the implementation of Nuctech multi-purpose factory in Kobyłka.
