Budimex and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways open S5 to traffic on the Leszno South – Kaczkowo section

The formal opening of the 9.5 km section took place on 5 October 2018. This road investment significantly reduces the travel time between Poznań and Wrocław conurbations. Drivers have gained two two-lane roads. Apart from this section, Budimex constructed the Leszno South road node at the intersection with the Regional Road 323.

Budimex was the contractor for the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways in the project. The project value was PLN 189.1M. The Leszno South – Kaczkowo section is one of the five parts of the S5 motorway constructed in the Greater Poland Province. It is an investment of strategic importance as it will allow drivers to transfer between Poznań and Wrocław faster and more conveniently. Two two-lane roads have been opened to traffic.

The works included the construction of 8 civil engineering structures such as 1 bridge, 6 road viaducts, flyovers for animals on the S5 and over the railroad line E59 as well as conduits, environmental equipment and road lighting. A Leszno South road node was constructed at the intersection with the Regional Road 323. In addition, the works involved the reconstruction of flyovers and access roads as well as the relocation of conflicting roads.

I am very pleased that it was possible to complete the investment so efficiently for it is vital for drivers and the entire region alike. It is a key transportation hub. It not only joins two conurbations but it is a transit road for those using the A2 as well as the A4 and A8 motorways – that is why it was so important to improve traffic on this section. I am convinced that drivers will instantly feel how comfort has increased, says Artur Popko, Board Member for Budimex.

There are still four more S5 sections to be built, including Poznań Głuchowo – Wronczyn (now being constructed by Toto), Wronczyn – Kościan (by Budimex), Kościan – Radomicko (by Mota Engil) and Radomicko – Leszno (by Mota Engil).
