General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways strengthens cooperation with the Agreement for Construction Safety

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the Agreement for Construction Safety signed a declaration of cooperation. Its aim is to work together to improve occupational safety when implementing infrastructure projects or servicing and maintaining existing roads.

The Agreement for Construction Safety and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways have committed themselves to building a health and safety culture through continuous improvement of health and safety management systems on ongoing projects and the development of a common strategy of actions. These include guidelines for safety improvement on construction sites. Both parties will now set up teams of experts to develop a detailed scope and schedule of cooperation.

“We want to minimize dangerous incidents on construction sites. Thanks to the cooperation with the general contractor organization, we can do it even more effectively. Cooperation regarding such an important issue is the basis for success," says Tomasz Żuchowski, acting General Director for National Roads and Motorways.

“Signing a declaration is actually a formality, because we have been working together on construction safety for some time now. We hope that one of the effects of our cooperation will be the development of safety guidelines that will be helpful at all stages of the construction process,” says Jacek Leczkowski, President of the Agreement for Construction Safety. “Occupational safety is one of the fields where the cooperation of all parties implementing construction projects is necessary. I hope that our partnership will be a model example of cooperation with public institutions for other industries - fully organized, transparent, contributing to the development of the sector,” adds Jacek Leczkowski.

The Agreement for Construction Safety promotes a culture of safety on construction sites through the implementation of standards, including the introduction of systemic solutions in the field of occupational health and safety, as well as in educational and training activities. The organization prepares videos, instructions and training for construction workers. Posters with guidelines for protection against the coronavirus were published, among others, by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. “In addition to improving safety on roads and engineering facilities, during this term of office we want to focus on procedures related to work at heights and vertical transport of materials,” says Jacek Leczkowski, President of the Agreement.

The declaration of cooperation between the Agreement for Construction Safety and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways was signed during the meeting of the Agreement's steering committee, i.e. the body composed of the presidents, vice-presidents and general directors of the signatory members. In addition to Jacek Leczkowski, President of the Agreement for Construction Safety, and Tomasz Żuchowski, acting General Director of National Roads and Motorways, the meeting was attended by Tomasz Kwieciński, Adviser of the General Director, Bartosz Wiśniewski, Director of the OHS Division of the ERBUD Group, and Michał Wasilewski, Coordinator of the Agreement for Construction Safety.
