Five awards for Budimex at Construction of the Year 2020 gala

Budimex has won five Construction of the Year 2020 awards, commonly referred to as the Construction Oscars. The Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians awarded the best, in terms of engineering, construction sites in Poland completed in 2020.

Budimex won the most awards among all the general contractors. PZIiTB awarded investments completed by Budimex, such as:

• Racibórz Dolny retention reservoir in Racibórz
• 1st stage of reconstruction of the Monopolis office and service complex in Łódź at ul. Dr Stefana Kopcińskiego 62
• Wola Retro in Warsaw at ul. Skierniewicka 16/20
• Modernisation of Idzikowice railway station
• Communication centre with passenger information system in Kielce at ul. Czarnowska 12

The title of Construction of the Year is awarded to the 45 best construction sites in Poland. A special jury, based on a technical visit to the construction site, assesses the quality of the works, organisation of the construction and execution time, technical and technological solutions of the execution process, occupational safety and health protection, course and form of financing the investment, costs of execution of the building object, formal and legal solutions in the investment process, investor’s participation in the execution of the building object and the impact of the investment on the environment and the economy of the region.

The awarded project - Racibórz Dolny Reservoir - is the largest hydrotechnical investment in Poland. It was commissioned by the Regional Water Management Board in Gliwice. Over 6.8 million tonnes of soil were used for the construction, enough to fill 130,960 freight cars.

Another awarded investment, namely Monopolis in Łódź, is one of the most technologically advanced revitalisation objects, not only in Poland. The investment also received the “real estate Oscar” during the prestigious MIPIM Awards ceremony in Paris. The realisation was placed next to the four best investments in Singapore, Montreal and Bangkok. The basic assumption of the project was to restore the coherence of the entire post-factory area of ??the Polmos spirits factory (Zakład Spirytusowy Polmos). Preparing the facilities for their new functions was as important as preserving their original appearance.

Also the award-winning Wola Retro in Warsaw is an office investment in Warsaw’s Wola district.  It is a combination of two buildings - a pre-war modernistic edifice and a new ten-storey office building. The building combines interesting design with high quality workmanship.

The modernisation of the Idzikowice railway station included the modernisation of the track and its drainage, the catenary system, the high power systems, the train signalling and control devices, and the data communication systems. A command signal tower was built and a PKP PLK emergency maintenance hangar was expanded for the same project. The work was delivered under the project titled “Railway Line 4 Upgrade: Central Trunk Line Stage Two” (Modernizacja linii kolejowej nr 4 – Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa etap II), intended to retrofit one of the strategic Polish railway lines to the 250 kmh speed standard.

The Communication Centre in Kielce is a symbolic and important infrastructural investment for the city and the region, which has contributed to an increase in travellers’ comfort. Preserving the original appearance of the station was the main task of the general contractor, who was responsible for the renovation of the building, while maintaining its characteristic saucer-like shape.
