First Parent Zone This Year Delivered!

Young patients of the hospital Wojewódzki Szpital Zespolony im. Jędrzeja Śniadeckiego in Białystok and their guardians can spend their time together in new colourful rooms.

The 35th Parent Zone was created in the Paediatric and Children’s Neurology Ward in Białystok. Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, the social programme “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” has continued without interruptions since 2013. It is already the second zone in Białystok. This friendly and colourful space will be available to up to 3000 children a year.

“Parent Zone. Budimex for Children” is a nationwide project managed and fully financed by Budimex SA. The purpose of the project is to create special places in paediatric wards of Polish hospitals for young patients to spend time with their parents and explore the world through play. Access to such colourful and friendly places makes the children feel more comfortable and speeds up their recovery.

The Paediatric and Children’s Neurology Ward in Białystok treats about 1,500 children a year. At the beginning of 2021, hospital rooms were thoroughly renovated with EU funds and the support of the Podlaskie provincial government. Today Budimex is delivering yet another part of the space – a room of the “Parent Zone.”

“This is the 35th Zone we are delivering under the CSR programme “Parent Zone. Budimex for Children.” The programme is particularly important to us because it actually helps improve the conditions in which parents spend their time with their children who are being hospitalised. A hospital stay requires young patients to temporarily and partially apart from their families and function in an unfamiliar environment, which is not easy for them. The rooms we are preparing are colourful and friendly, whereby they make it much easier to forget about the difficult time and circumstances the children are facing, at least for a moment. Additionally, the Parent Zone will offer daily activities to support recovery and rehabilitation. This is our second “Parent Zone” in Białystok. The first one was created in 2013 in the children’s hospital Dziecięcy Szpital Kliniczny im. L. Zamenhofa, in the Paediatric, Gastroenterology and Children’s Alergology Clinic. We are happy to be able to help” – Aldona Orłowski, Head of the Recruitment, Development & Communications Office at Budimex.

The Parent Zone in the Paediatric and Children’s Neurology Ward uses the former day room. The design was inspired by nature and forest. We focused on aesthetic and functional issues, primarily on decorating and securing the walls. This way we prepared a room consisting of three areas: an educational section for older children, a playing corner for young children and space with a soft couch and a TV for the parents. The Parent Zone will be available to up to 3,000 beneficiaries a year.

Due to the restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic and in concern for the health and safety of the patients and the staff, the handover of the renovated space took place without any celebrations. A meeting with the press was held in front of the hospital building, with all precautions observed.

The programme is implemented and fully financed by Budimex SA.
