“Construction of the Year 2016” for Budimex and Mostostal Kraków

On 27 June 2017, the Polish Union of Construction Engineers and Technicians [Polski Związek Inżynierów i Techników Budownictwa, PZITB] awarded the title Construction of the Year for the 27th time. In this year's edition of the competition, five investments completed by the Budimex Group won the title of “Construction of the Year 2016”, of which four received first degree awards and one second degree award.

 

PZITB rewards investments featuring technological innovations, high quality of workmanship, and good organisation of the construction process, as well as a high level of occupational safety and environmental protection. The fact that the constructions completed by Budimex meet those criteria and individual contract teams achieved outstanding performance results are the particular reasons for satisfaction.

 

The following projects were awarded the title of “Construction of the Year 2016” (first degree award):

 

POLMLEK production plant in Lidzbark Warmiński in the category: production, commercial and service facilities.

The construction required for substandard approach in terms of design and performance. The BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology was used in order to coordinate the technology design provided by an international team of designers, which made it possible to prepare optimum construction solutions.

 

 

Business Garden Wrocław (first stage) in the category: office facilities.

 

The project is characterized by modern offices with power saving solutions implemented. The equipment systems installed in the buildings are intended to provide thermal comfort, increase the volume of fresh air in the rooms and control access of daylight as well as decrease the water and power consumption.

 

 

Lublin Conference Center in Lublin in the category: public utility facilities.

 

This is a representative facility with unique technical solutions such as: double coated glass façades with tendon-prestressed stainless steel structure or the façade of internal “cocoon” rooms finished with arc-shaped ceramic panels.

 

 

Budimex SA was the general contractor for the foregoing projects.

 

Huta Miedzi Głogów was also awarded the title of “Construction of the Year 2016” (first degree award) in the category: industrial facilities. Mostostal Kraków SA was the general contractor of this facility.

 

The facility fulfils functions related to copper concentrate smelting. The modernized hall is composed of multiple naves and spans. The complex includes high and high-rise buildings with reinforced concrete separated cores housing furnaces: suspension roaster and electric furnace as well as metallurgical and transport equipment related thereto, and the installations required.

 

 

The title “Construction of the Year 2016” (second degree award) was granted to the S7 Miłomłyn – Ostróda (LOT A) express road in the category: individually evaluated facilities. Consortium of Budimex SA and Ferrovial Agroman SA was the general contractor of the project.

 

The project encompassed construction of 9.4 km-long section of two-lane S7 express road, including technical infrastructure and traffic safety devices. The entire project was commissioned 3 months before the deadline. During project implementation, particular focus was placed on employees’ OHS, which was awarded in the “Build Safely” competition.

 

The competition “Construction of the Year” organised by the Polish Union of Construction Engineers and Technicians in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, and the General Office of Building Control has become one of the most prestigious reviews of achievements of the Polish construction industry.
