Budimex Wins the Top Builder Prize for a PKN Orlen Project

Budimex has won the prestigious Top Builder Prize for building PKN Orlen’s R&D Centre in Plock. On April 20 (Wednesday), the jury selected the most innovative and high-quality products in the Polish construction industry. The event took place at the Warsaw Olympic Centre.

The Top Builder title has been coveted by the industry for years. In the fourteenth edition of the competition, the Builder magazine Editorial Board and Scientific Council have awarded the prize to investors, architects, contractors and manufacturers for outstanding projects and solutions within the context of the Polish construction industry.

‘We are honoured by this prize. As a consequence of PKN Orlen’s expectations and the intended functionality, the CBR building complex had to be adapted to the research specifics of the petroleum industry and meet the most exacting construction standards. We’d like to express our gratitude to our investor, PKN Orlen. The company was as exacting as it was benevolent.’ - Marek Janowski, the Commercial Director at the Budimex General Construction Division, said during the ceremony. The prize was also collected by Artur Adamus, the Contract Director.

The contract with the investor was signed in April 2019. The construction was completed in June 2021.  The project was completed using the EPC framework (engineering, procurement, construction). Apart from providing the design, the task of Budimex was also to construct and equip buildings in the Centre on a turnkey basis and start up the delivered gear, such as the measurement and laboratory equipment.

The project includes eight buildings. These office and industrial buildings combine research and warehouse functions and include facilities such as a technical building outfitted with a laboratory, research and testing facilities boasting a modelling and pilot plant (with an area of almost 2,000 square metres), as well as a testing and raw material warehouse. The scope of the project also included the construction of an external warehouse boasting a fuel mix preparation plant, an office building with administrative facilities for the whole Centre, and the required technical infrastructure. Construction works carried out by Budimex included building infrastructure in the vicinity of the buildings: internal roads, car parks and vehicle manoeuvre areas. The R&B Centre’s total area is 43,000 square metres.
