Budimex will revive Plac Litewski in Lublin

Plac Litewski (Litewski Square) located in the centre of Lublin is the city’s landmark. At the beginning of the 1970s, it was entered in the Register of Historic Monuments. The Lublin authorities have planned modernisation and expansion of the square for several years. Lublin City Hall commissioned these works to Budimex. A contract for the net value of PLN 39.7 million was concluded on 29 March 2016.
Plac Litewski takes up approximately 35 thousand square metres. The key design concept of the revival project is pedestrianisation of the main communication route of the city while emphasising the continuation of Krakowskie Przedmieście Street as a pedestrian walk at the section from Kołłątaja Street to Kapucyńska Street. The plan of the Square with two garden zones and a central part – an open leisure space with a fountain – will be retained.
The central part of the Square, in place of the old fountain, will feature an interactive system of water devices enabling to organise multimedia displays. Along the Krakowskie Przedmieście pedestrian walk, there will be seven linear fountains and one spiral fountain.
The central part of the Square will be laid with granite stone pavers. The arrangement of green zones will also be changed – new greenery islands will be developed.
Within this investment, Budimex will also replace all systems, relocate the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, develop a weather station, a public toilet and revive the areas adjacent to Plac Litewski, namely Plac Krąpca and Plac Czechowicza.
The works will end on 30 April 2017.
