Budimex starts construction of a bridge in the German town of Liepe

Budimex has started construction work on a bridge structure in Germany near the Polish border. The tender for the demolition and construction of a new bridge in Liepe, Brandenburg, worth €5.1 million gross, was won by Poland's largest general contractor in late 2021.

The project, which is being carried out by Budimex, is located in Liepe in the state of Brandenburg, in the district of Barnim, in the east of Germany. One of the largest ship lifts in Europe is located nearby. The Oder-Havel Canal, a very important waterway, which connects the Oder River with the waterway network in Germany, passes through this location. It is here that the steel parts of the bridge, which are being built in Szczecin, are transported. The first stage of the construction work is the demolition of the old bridge structure.

Our task is to demolish the old bridge and build a new structure. This construction presents us with a major challenge. Due to the nature conservation area, the transport of materials to the south side has to be done by water. We are currently starting the demolition work. The first step is to cut out the central span of the support structure, which will then be lowered in its entirety using a pontoon press system. We only have 48 hours to cut out the middle span. This time is so short because we cannot block the waterway any longer – says Denis Buchta, Budimex Bau site manager.

Budimex is the largest construction company in Poland, which has already completed thousands of modern projects across the country. The company currently employs more than 7,000 people. One of the elements of Budimex's development is to go beyond Poland and expand into European markets. On the German market, Budimex SA operates together with its subsidiary Budimex Bau GmbH in the area of infrastructure construction as well as warehouse and industrial construction. Budimex Bau can boast of winning further tenders in these areas. Budimex is also present in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In December this year, the general contractor started work on the construction of the D1/D4 motorway interchange in Slovakia.
