Budimex Signs Contract To Build Smolajny Bypass

On 17 December 2020 Budimex signed a contract with the Olsztyn Office of GDDKiA to build the bypass for the town of Smolajny on the DK51 national road. Worth nearly 26 million PLN, with Budimex as the general contractor, the contract will be implemented in 16 months, winter months not included.

The construction of the Smolajny bypass is yet another work package carried out in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Province under the government programme to build 100 bypass roads in the years 2020-2030. Budimex will construct a 1.76 km long section of the road. The new road infrastructure will improve the driveability and safety for both long-distance and regional traffic.

“The DK51 in this region is the northern exit road for Olsztyn towards the state border. Extension of this part of the road will greatly improve the flow of traffic by helping to maintain constant speeds along the whole route,” says Dariusz Blocher, President and CEO of Budimex SA.

The project will consist in expanding the road on its existing route and partially with a new alignment. Under the contract, Budimex will build two roadways for access to adjacent land and pedestrian and bike routes, pavements, two pairs of bus stop bays, and pedestrian crossings with refuge islands. The project is scheduled for completion in 2021 and 2022.

Budimex has extensive experience in the construction of infrastructure projects. Acting as the general contractor, Budimex is currently building the Wałbrzych bypass, a section of the S16 in Białystok and the DK12 in Chełm.
