We will build a R&D centre of PKN ORLEN in Płock

On 24 April 2019, Budimex SA signed a general agreement for building the R&D Centre (CBR) of PKN ORLEN in Płock. In the future, CBR will carry out research and development activities related to the refining and petrochemical industry.

The main function of the new PKN ORLEN investment in Płock will be to carry out activities related to the implementation of new technical solutions and developing new products and technologies. The Centre, with a total area of approx. 8,500 m2 of useable space, will also work on improving and optimising already implemented processes and products. Therefore, the complex of buildings comprising the CBR must meet the high technological requirements adapted to the specific R&D needs of the refining and petrochemical industry.

- On a plot of 4.3 ha, we will build 7 buildings, including an office building, a technical building with a laboratory, a reproduction and piloting hall, and an external warehouse with an installation for fuel mixing. We are also tasked with creating a road system for this investment - says Dariusz Blocher, President of Budimex SA.

The EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) contract obliges us not only to design and build CBR buildings, but also to equip them. The company will also deploy the supplied equipment, including measuring and laboratory equipment, which will enable, among other things, conducting analytical research on the properties of refinery and petrochemical products. The equipment also includes the installation for preparing fuel mixtures (petrol and diesel) and two test benches for testing the reference properties of fuels.

This is not the first investment of Budimex in Płock. In the years 2012–2014, the company built an office building Corporate Services Centre for the Płock Industrial and Technological Park (Centrum Usług Korporacyjnych dla Płockiego Parku Przemysłowo-Technologicznego). In 2017, the construction of a multi-chamber reactor installation for decarbonisation and accompanying infrastructure was completed. It was carried out for the same investor, also following the EPC form. The company is also modernising the tank cleaning plant of the PKN ORLEN production plant in Płock, for which the agreement was signed in February 2017.

The company has 18 months to complete the R&D centre. The investment is to be delivered at the end of 2020.
