Budimex to design and build the Podgórze - Kamień section of the S19 express road

On 9 August 2018 we signed an agreement with the Rzeszów branch office of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) to build a section of road about 10.5 km in length. It is to form part of the Via Carpatia route, to connect the Podgórze junction (including the junction itself) with the Kamień junction (excluding the junction itself). The section is to be built within 34 months.

This investment is part of an ongoing express road project, the S19 Nisko Południe - Sokołów Małopolskie Północ road. Its performance has been divided into three tasks. We are responsible for task B, i.e. the section from the Podgórze junction (inclusive of) up to the Kamień junction (exclusive of), approx. 10.5 km in length. “Work will be performed according to the design-and-build approach,” explains Dariusz Blocher, President of the Budimex S.A. Management Board. “The scope of our efforts includes, among other things, procuring a construction permit, erecting civil engineering structures and ancillary infrastructure, and then drawing up the as-is documentation and procuring the road occupancy permit. We are glad that we will be participating in the creation of the Via Carpatia route, which is crucial for Eastern Poland, and in so doing contribute to establishing a good connection between our country and other countries of the European Union as well as our eastern neighbours.”

Via Carpatia begins in Lithuania, passes through countries like Poland, Hungary, and Bulgaria, to finally finish in distant Thessaloniki, Greece. As part of our efforts on the Podgórze - Kamień section, we will create a two-lane express road with emergency lanes, access roads connecting it to the existing network of roads, noise-blocking screens, animal crossings, green areas, 8 flyovers, 5 bridges, and 5 ecological crossings.

The investment is planned to take 34 months. Winter months are not included in the estimated duration. The value of the agreement is around PLN 271 million. “Having vast experience in contemporary road construction, we are ready to tackle this task. The S19 is a very important section of an international route, which makes us even more pleased to be participating in the project,” adds Dariusz Blocher.
