We complete construction of the Czeszów – Kiełczów gas pipeline

According to the agreement, Budimex has obtained the certificate of final acceptance, free of faults, for the construction of a 32.5 km high pressure gas pipeline. The investment involves the section from the Czeszów Shut Off and Relief Valve System to the Kiełczów junction. The contract was implemented as part of the construction of a gas pipeline from the border of the Republic of Poland (Lasów) – Taczalin – Radakowice – Gałów – Wierzchowice, together with infrastructure necessary to operate it. The total value of the project is over PLN 63 million.

Budimex has constructed a 32.5 km section of a gas pipeline located within the territory of two gminas: Zawonia and Długołęka, both located within the Dolnośląskie Province. Operator Gazociągów Przesyłowych GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is the investor. Once again Budimex has proved to be a reliable contractor, demonstrating high quality workmanship with the construction completed within the time limit specified in the agreement plus, what is more, obtaining a certificate of final acceptance, free of faults. "Fault-free acceptance makes us even more proud, because the investor is a strategic company for the Polish economy, responsible for the transmission of natural gas and the management of the most important gas pipelines in Poland," says Dariusz Blocher, President of the Management Board of Budimex S.A.

Comprehensive construction of a gas pipeline

The contract also included the construction of shut-off and relief valve systems, access roads and new power connections for facilities. "The construction of a gas pipeline represented a great technical and organisational challenge, because the investment was being implemented in an area covered by the Natura 2000 programme. Therefore we not only had to take great care of the quality and timeliness of the works, but also to protect valuable natural areas. For this purpose we applied techniques like HDD controlled drilling technology," says Dariusz Blocher. Nevertheless, the team implementing the investment completed it within the contractual time limit. The gas pipeline was filled in, commissioned, accepted in terms of technical and operating issues, and a use permit was issued.

Important investment for Poland

The construction of the Czeszów – Kiełczów pipeline is an important element in the process of strengthening Poland's energy security. Together with other gas pipelines to be constructed in the Lower Silesia region, this new section, featuring the highest working parameters, will make it possible to transmit increased quantities of gas through the transmission system as part of the North – South corridor. The fact that the European Commission has given the investment the status of 'Project of Common Interest' proves that the investment is of paramount importance.

Budimex constructs the energy and industrial sectors

For Budimex, the Czeszów – Kiełczów gas pipeline was not the first implementation of an energy and industrial contract. Apart from many projects in the waste and environmental protection sector, since 2014 the company has also participated in a consortium to build a power unit at the Turów Power Plant. The agreement covers the design, construction and start-up of the 450 MW power plant, as well as training of personnel at PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna S.A., Turów Power Plant Branch. The construction is expected to be completed in 2020, and its total value is over PLN 3.5 billion.
